SCORE FOLLOWER

With hope and resilience is a fanfare and anthem inspired by the overall optimistic tone depicted within two poems - John Keats's To Hope and Emily Dickinson's "Hope" is the thing with feathers. All of the thematic and motivic materials created for this piece undergo a transformative change, whether reappearing in new stylistic textures or evolving over time. Brief moments of musical tension and alarm eventually give way to brighter colors and textures of sound. What starts as a fanfare eventually, and naturally, transforms into an anthem full of hope, resilience, determination, and a sense of spirited youthfulness. Although elements of the fanfare are briefly recalled to the very end, the anthem ultimately strives to look forward to the future and what we can make of it together.
