In March 2020, during the first few weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic, I spent 14 days of self-isolation and quarantine undergoing the same morning ritual - wake up, make a cup of coffee, and write improvisational sketches. By the time I had finished a particular improvisation, the cup of coffee was empty. The 14-track EP resulting from these days (also titled “Isolation Improvisations”) is highly eclectic in style, length, and nature. Some meander in an ambient, meditative state full of contemplation, while others burst in energy in a wild, chaotic frenzy.

This first volume is my return to those improvisations, albeit with a different approach. The five solos contained in this book were written spontaneously, following similar stream-of-consciousness patterns on the whole as the original EP did. They also lean into more creative interests I have recently had towards various styles of contemporary jazz, folk, and pop music.

It is my hope through this music that, as the world and our society continues to change, we find peace and joy in our own lives while bringing exceptional serenity, kindness, and determination to everything that we do.
