ABOUT THIS ARRANGEMENT

This book is the culmination of a project Geritt Davenport spearheaded for his publishing company TUX People’s Music in the fall of 2023. The first of an intended series, Holiday Delights represents my first foray into writing music for flexible quartets, designed to be accessible at the educational level for essentially any combination of winds and percussion, or any combination of strings.

While the majority of the book features my own arrangements of traditionally popular Christmas tunes (as well as two Hanukkah songs), its opening section is entirely dedicated to holiday music that could be performed during the autumn season (especially for Halloween concerts). I couldn’t resist including arrangements/excerpts of two very popular works: Saint-Saëns’s “Fossils” from his “Carnival of the Animals”, and Berlioz’s infamous dance (Dies Irae and all) from “The Witches’ Sabbath” movement of his “Symphonie Fantastique”. Rounding out Holiday Delights is the café lounge music that permeates my second symphony “Pumpkin Madness” - an ode to the impact of pumpkin spice on the cultural zeitgeist - as well as the brand-new composition “Hymn for Tricks and Treats”, a stately New England-inspired chorale celebrating Halloween with a bit of a spooky and sinister edge.
