ABOUTI'm excited to announce a commission led by Dr. Jordan VanHemert, Assistant Professor of Saxophone and Jazz Studies at Hope College - Summertime Echoes, a brand-new concerto for soprano saxophone and wind ensemble! The work will be three movements long, at a roughly Grade 4-5 level for the accompaniment, and approximately 10-15 minutes in duration. A piano reduction will also be prepared.
The piece is expected to be completed by this fall. Dr. VanHemert will be premiering the full concerto on November 22, 2019 with the Hope College Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Gabe Southard. WHO THIS IS OPEN TOwind ensembles (collegiate and high school groups)
saxophone soloists WHY ARE WE DOING THISThis consortium combines the shared personal interests of both composer and performer in bringing to the forefront new and exciting music to the concert stage. We seek to provide a brand-new soloistic experience to the soprano saxophone concerto repertoire with the band world, a fast-changing and every-growing medium that we believe effectively fulfills the ideas of community and togetherness.
In addition, we believe that every performer should have the opportunity to be a part of the creation and performance of new music, especially with concerti! Our consortium seeks to reflect this goal and stress the idea of community when it comes to programming and supporting new music, especially for programs that often do not get to participate in such endeavors. |
