PROGRAM NOTES
Celestial Voyage evokes an innocent sense of wondering what it might be like for one to travel through outer space. After some music which establishes this particular mood, the piece takes off on its journey. Included is a "motor" prevalent throughout the piece and found at some point in most, if not all, of the instruments. Complimenting this is a musical motif, also littered throughout the piece, and broad chords representing the vastness of this undiscovered country, as well as its mysterious and perhaps even ominous qualities. After a triumphant climax where all of these ideas return, the piece ends on this mysterious note, revealing that there is still so much more to be discovered out there beyond our planet.
"The first of these factors is the compelling urge of man to explore and discover, the thrust of curiosity that leads men to try to go where no man has gone before."
-Introduction to Outer Space, The White House, 26 March 1958
