When I began to write Summertime Echoes, one of the first questions that came to mind was what were some things that could define the experiences of a summer vacation? While this concerto focuses on three such experiences in a broad sense, the piece takes a more open-ended approach to exploring them. Everyone's summer experiences are different. But, like with any other season, there are popular and common threads that connect them. The piece is specifically about the ideas of those experiences.

That leads us to the concerto's second movement - "Idyllic Chronicles." This movement explores the relationships with family, friends, and loved ones that are shared during the summer and how those may or may not particularly change over time. Youthful summer romances are often prevalent too. This movement in particular opened up a number of questions that are more explored than fully answered:
Do these relationships continue beyond summer? Or, do some of them end? What defines these relationships?
How can time change one or both people? What experiences can change them?
